About
Caroline Chiara, LCSW
I help individuals and couples navigate through life's challenges while creating space for self-reflection and exploration and gain deeper understanding of how one’s environment shapes one’s sense of self.
My work as a clinical social worker has varied throughout the years with my initial training focusing on significant mental illness and evolving into school social work, and then many years as a medical social worker with a special focus on hospice and palliative care. I’ve sat with many individuals and families, helping them navigate the medical system, but also navigating the complex emotional, spiritual and psychological components of having chronic health issues or facing end of life.
Prior to my becoming a clinical social worker I worked in a variety of settings, including legal services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and members of the LGBTQI communities, malaria vaccine development, and even a short stent in event planning! I share this because every workplace, life experience, relationship, or volunteering opportunity can teach us something about ourselves and our relationship to our environment. Therapy is an opportunity for self-exploration and reflection and can help us evolve, mature, and through our relationships help our loved ones do the same. I use relational theory, attachment theory, and psychodynamic principles to help clients understand where they are stuck, and how to move forward.
